Ahh, it’s got that new-movie scent! Here’s what’s new this week.
ROOM – Stunning performances from Brie Larson and young Jacob Tremblay in this tale of a woman who’s held against her will for seven years and her son who’s never seen the outdoors. There’s Oscar buzz all over this one, and it’s more uplifting than you’d think.
REMEMBER – Atom Egoyan’s latest has Christopher Plummer hunting Nazis, so it’s kind of a sequel to SOUND OF MUSIC. It’s pretty bleak, and Egoyan’s on quite a slump, but it’s still interesting.
THE LAST WITCH HUNTER – Vin Diesel is the titular hunter in a film that wants to be a franchise starter, but will likely tank. Overloaded CGI bad guys, and cheese, cheese, cheese. Still, might fit the bill if you’re looking for cornball fluff.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION – It’s said to be the final film in the series, promising answers to all questions, and it’s in THREE DEE. So yeah.
JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS – Stay home and fire up the DVDs of the show. This one’s for the Youtube generation, not longtime fans. Remember kids, everyone can be a star! Just keep adding to the digital white noise! You’re bound to soar above the others! Because YOU’RE A GODDAMN UNIQUE SNOWFLAKE
ROCK THE CASBAH – Sadly, Bill Murray’s latest is getting eviscerated, showing that a little Bill goes a long way.
